We carry out residential structural surveys and commercial surveys in Acton. The name Acton comes from the Anglo-Saxon and translates to mean ‘ Oak Town ' or ‘Oak Farm' or ‘Farm by Oak Trees'. Acton is first recorded in 1181 and the majority of the settlement was situated along what was to become known as the Uxbridge Road and close to St Mary's Church, which ran between London and Oxford . In the 14th century there were several inns in the area which were used as stopping places for travellers.

During the 17th and 18th centuries Acton was frequented by the wealthier families as a summer residence mainly due to the Acton Wells which were supposed to contain health giving mineral water.

In the 19th century Acton experienced a population upsurge with properties being built to the north and south of the Uxbridge Road and in the 1870s building started in south-east Acton, at Bedford Park, England's first garden suburb which was aimed at the upper middle classes and had a reputation for being an area for artists and writers. These Victorian homes still remain (an example of a building survey on a Victorian property is available in our downladable surveys section). Elsewhere, for example the Steyne, were slum areas and Acton became heavily industrialised due to the motor industries which were situated in Acton and other manufacturing businesses such as Wilkinson's etc with the main industrial areas being located around Acton Vale and Park Royal. After World War II blocks of flats were built in south Acton and Acton became a major industrial centre. The South Acton estate is the largest housing estate in West London and the area is undergoing regeneration products which involves the demolition of existing homes and the building of new ones.

1st Associated can provide an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor to carry out surveys on any era of property and we provide lots of photos throughout our surveys to help you to see any specific problems, understand the problems and negotiate discounts if required. We also utilise digital sketches in our building surveys, again to show any issues or elements of the property in more detail and to aid understanding of any issues the property may have, such as timber defects like wet rot, dry rot or woodworm. Call us on 0800 298 5424 to book a survey or to speak to a surveyor about the services we provide.
