- Buckingham was declared county town of Buckinghamshire in the year 888 by Alfred the Great. However, Aylesbury took over this role in the 16th century.
- In 7th century AD, Buckingham, literally meaning "meadow of Bucca's people" is said to have been founded by Bucca, the leader of the first German settlers.
- The town is said to be the final resting place of Saint Rumwold a little known Saxon saint and the grandson of Penda King of Mercia .

Buckingham Chantry Chapel
Chantry Chapel is a National Trust 15 th Century chapel located in Buckingham. It is the oldest building in Buckingham which has a Norman doorway. The chapel was restored in 1875 by Sir George Gilbert Scott.
Stowe House
About two miles from Buckingham is Stowe House, a Grade I listed country house located in Stowe. It is the home of an independent school. The gardens and part of the Park came under the ownership of the National Trust in 1990 and are open to the public.
