We carry out residential structural survey and commercial survey in Burwell. Burwell is a town which is situated in Cambridgeshire.
Burwell is a large village situated in the Fens which has won the Best Kept Village award on numerous occasions. Local residents are referred to as Burwellians. It is only 5 miles from Newmarket , famous for its connections with horseracing. The village has a football club, Burwell Swifts, and a cricket club. An annual carnival is held in June.
It was mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name of “Burewelle”. The name Burwell means “Spring by the Fort”. This refers to Burwell Castle , a moated structure which was built, though never completed, in mid-12th Century during the reign of King Stephen. The grassy earthwork remains of Burwell Castle can be seen today, worth a visit as you can capture an essence of the once beautiful castle.
As well as the castle there are many other interesting and historic buildings in Burwell including The Church of St Mary which dates back to the 13 th century, though largely restored in the 1800's which is a great example of a perpendicular church. Burwell windmill, known as Stevens' Mill was built in the early 19th century and was last working in 1955. A fine example of a windmill, it still has the sails and can be viewed by appointment. Burwell Museum of Fen Edge Village Life opened in 1982 and is housed in a 17 th century Tudor timber framed barn situated next door to Stevens' Mill. It holds historical information about Burwell, including old photographs, censuses and information about prominent families.
A carnival is held every year in June, where local folk can participate on grand floats, enjoy a variety of stalls and activities and round it all off with some live music in the evening.
Devil's Dyke, a large manmade hill and ditch, thought to date from Anglo-Saxon times can be found 1 mile from Burwell.
There are many beautiful buildings in this delightful village including Grade II listed buildings with thatched roofs on North Street to the more modern properties on Copperfield Way . 1stAssociated can carry out surveys in Burwell and throughout Cambridgeshire on any type of properties as our years of experience have given us the knowledge to know what to look for in each particular type of property.
