Travelling west from Nottingham on the A6007 is the Derbyshire town of Ilkeston surrounded by the villages of Shipley to the north, New Stanton to the south, Cossall to the east and West Hallam to the west. The town is close to the M1 in between junctions 25 and 26 and due to its location is a perfect location for commuters to live if working in Nottingham or Derby . As with many towns in Derbyshire in the past Ilkeston was a coal mining town but that industry has faded with the mines eventually closing down. Years ago the town was a spa town with the Ilkeston Bath being built attached to the Rutland Hotel but with the contamination of the water from the mining works this was eventually ceased.
