From Reading heading towards Swindon on the M4 leaving at junction 14 to join the B4000 then B4001 is the village of Lambourn famous for its racecourse and due to the beautiful chalk Berkshire Downs an area rich in Racing Yards where many horses are reared and trained. The village is quintessentially English with its delightful Norman St Michael and All Angels Church, cobblestones and almshouses and a lovely place to carry out structural building surveys. Just outside the village is Ashdown House which is uncommonly tall with a hipped roof, two large chimneys and an octagonal cupola and built from chalk blocks with stone quoins and has a dolls house appearance although considered Dutch in style.
