We carry out residential structural surveys and commercial surveys in Royston. Royston is a small market town situated at the most northern apex of Hertfordshire on the boarder with Cambridgeshire. Royston is set within a very rural area and the town has much character. Interestingly Royston is located just to the west of the International Meridian line (also known as the Greenwich Meridian). In Royston the International Meridian runs through where the Royston bypass joins the A505.

Royston developed around the point where the Roman road Ermine Street (built by the Romans nearly two thousand years ago) intersects with the Icknield Way , again a Roman road built on a prehistoric route running from Salisbury Plane through to East Anglia . Next to this crossroads a cross was raised called Roisia's Cross and the town took its name from this marker. The base of the cross stands by the crossroads. An Augustinian Priory was built in the area in the late 1100s and Richard I created an estate here and a market. In the early1300s Roisia's cross had given its name to Roisia's Town which eventually lead to the name Royston.

Being at the intersection of these two main roads, Royston saw many travellers go through the town and from the 1500s onwards the town's Inns were busy with travellers using the London to York road. In 1603 Scotland 's James VI stayed overnight in the town when travelling to London for his coronation to become James I of England . He obviously liked the area because he returned t and decided to set up a place to visit to carry out hunting away from his court in London .

In 1611- 1612 Queen Anne and Prince Henry also visited the town and the following year King James I travelled to Royston to arrange the marriage of his daughter. James I's lodge is now the ' Old Palace ' in Kneesworth Street .

Royston used to rely very much on agriculture and farming as its main source of work but in more recent years light industry has set up in the town which has meant the town has had to create more homes for the amount of people living in the area.
