Stonehaugh is just 12 miles northwest of Hexham and was built in the 1950s for the Forestry Commission to house their workers who were building up and harvesting the Kielder Forest. With just 35 houses built, one housing a shop/post office and one used for a church, a social club and a village hall, it is a far cry from the original 200 houses, a church, school and pub that was to be there.
